David “Dave” Gibb is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who joined the FOCUS Fort Myers Speech Therapy Department in 2023. In 2024, he launched the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Department at FOCUS — one of only a few programs of its kind in South Florida.
After earning a Bachelor’s in Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh, Gibb earned his Masters in Arts in Speech Language Pathology at the Ohio University in 2020. From there, he spent three years working a school district setting, evaluating and treating students with a variety of speech and language disorders.
“I wanted to find a field where I could make an impact on the lives of others, and a field where I would be interacting with children,” Gibb said of why he was drawn to speech therapy. “As soon as I learned of speech-language pathology, I knew it would be a perfect fit. … I love watching children grow and use their speech/language skills in different environments.”
Dave said he’s especially passionate about helping children who are non-verbal find their voice through the use of augmentative and alternative communication. He’s had success with children ages 3 to 22 in using a variety of low-tech and high-tech communication modalities. He’s also certified in MELD and LAMP, and has completed a variety of AAC trainings.
“I believe in client-led therapy, and therapy that can be generalized in contexts outside of the therapy room,” he said.
Lured to Southwest Florida by the beautiful weather and MLB spring training, Dave spends his spare time doing Crossfit, hanging out with friends and family, spoiling his dog, Harper, and cheering on the Pitt Panthers and Philadelphia Phillies.
