DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy)

Carly Shevitz is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who has been with FOCUS Therapy since 2020.

A former pro athlete (on the U.S. Olympic sailing team for four years), she’s always been enthusiastic about living a healthy, active lifestyle. Physical therapy was a field where she could apply those fundamentals with her interests in science, the human body, and helping others.

“In physical therapy, every little step counts,” Shevitz said. “As a pediatric physical therapist, I know that helping to improve my patients’ strength and motor skills, I’m putting them on the right path toward a lifetime of independence.”

Shevitz earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the College of Charleston in 2014 before moving onto the University of St. Augustine for Health Science in Miami, earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2020. Her clinical background is in outpatient orthopedics and inpatient pediatrics. In addition to English, she speaks beginniner Hebrew and beginner Spanish. She especially enjoys working with children who have Down syndrome. She’s also on an APTA literature review committee reviewing research on establishing clinical practice guidelines for kids with cerebral palsy.

“I love how resilient kids are,” she says. “I have always loved being around kids, and they learn and recover really fast.”

Much of Shevitz’s own childhood was spent in New Jersey and then in California, with her three siblings – Cody, Cassidy and Carson. She was drawn to Southwest Florida by the warm weather and the chance to live near the water.

At FOCUS, she enjoys being part of a tightknit team.

“I love how we all work as a team and constantly collaborate on cases,” she said. “Everyone gets along really well, and we love bouncing ideas off each other.”

Her beloved labradoodle, Popeye, is also part of the FOCUS family.

“I am training him to become a service animal so he can help me treat my patients!”
