Anna Hosner joined the FOCUS speech therapy team in 2019, shortly after earning her Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Florida. She earned her Bachelor of Health Science from the University of Florida in 2017.
Hosner’s internships included:
- BrightStart Pediatrics PPEC (Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care) Center, a nursing and therapy facility for medically-fragile infants and children under age 5, with a focus on early intervention to improve communication, play, feeding and swallowing skills.
- A skilled nursing facility where she provided cognitive, voice, language and dysphagia therapy to adult and geriatric patients.
“I wanted to give others a voice,” Hosner said. “It gives me purpose to know I am helping others reach their fullest potential while also having fun. I’m passionate about helping others. Being an SLP provides me with the avenue to do so in several different ways.”
Working with children allows the opportunity to do that work in an environment that is imaginative, creative and fun.
“They always keep things interesting and I truly enjoy making special connections with each and every one of them,” the Fort Myers native said.
At FOCUS Therapy, she has found a positive environment among not only other speech therapists, but occupational therapists, physical therapists and ABA therapists where there is always someone to go to with questions or concerns. As for her therapy philosophy, she draws from the wisdom of Maya Angelou: That people will forget what you said and what you did, but never how you made them feel.
“I strive every day to create an environment where my clients feel understood, safe and comfortable, “Hosner said, “because only then will they learn and grow to their fullest potential.”
In her free time, Hosner enjoys spending time with her family, her dogs, baking new recipes, watching college football (Go Blue! Go Gators!) and traveling to Disney World and National Parks.
